Artemis circled around Brand, her sword raised in a guarded position while her free hand hovered next to her thigh. She gave a probing thrust, careful to minimize any possible openings.

Brand's ego wouldn't give her an easy victory this time. Brand blocked it easily, shifting aside a bit and letting her do most of the moving. His eyes narrowed a bit as he changed his grip subtly into a more aggressive form of readiness. He waited for a dramatic moment or two before he launched his counterattack. This time it was a faster, harder swing towards the girl's legs...leaving a brief opening for Artimis to strike at. An oprning that was in fact a trap.

Giles recorded the theatrical battle, electing to keep a consistent angle rather than try moving his "camera" around for effect. It looked like they were both good enough to make it exciting without him doing anything.
'Those weapons look a bit to realistic to play around with now, but they both seem to be practiced enough not to harm each other by accident.
'Now I think I know what to expect from them later.'
"Any comments?" he directed this question aside to one of the booth owners.

Artemis grinned fiercely. Apparently this dragon knight was sandbagging last time. This time it seemed like he was a much better match for her. As soon as she saw the spear swinging for her legs she gave a half turn, pulling out a baton from its holster and using it to block the spear while she went for a quick thrust with the sword.

Brand caught the sword with the shaft of his spear and shoved the blade upward. He pre-emptively countered the baton with a sudden spin of his weapon that came dangerously close to disarming the sword entirely. As it was, Brand suddenly had the advantage of leverage. He pushed into her, trying to force her back and off balance...all the while being careful of the nearby tables and displays. He didn't go for a fight-ending strike, though. He wanted the audience to enjoy the spectacle.

The spear spin brought a fierce grin to her face. He was definitely an impressive combatant, not many people these days seemed to realize spears could also be used as staves.
However this appreciation didn't keep her from reacting to the tactic. And instead of resisting the counter as her opponent likely expected, she flowed with the motion of the spear, bringing her baton inward to work defense while she arced her sword along the path of the shaft. She finished with a quick spin to kill the rest of the momentum.
Her baton shot out solidly, hitting the spear in the center of the shaft as she pivoted back and to the side, swinging her sword towards his lower torso.

Brand was forced back by the narrow miss, his spear set to vibrating in his hands from the baton blow.
Has she forgotten this was all in fun, Brand wondered as he fired off a blur of quick strikes meant to put her on the defensive. Because he didn't want to wreck the place he didn't go for any sweeping blows, keeping to jabs and lunges.
"Break my spear and I won't be happy," he warned, though he kept up his confident smile.

"Phrasing." Artemis teased as she pressed closer, using her sword to fend off the spear attacks while she swung at him with her baton.
"It's wonderful of you to handicap yourself like this, using a spear in tight quarters. If you want I could hand you my other baton, make this a fairer fight." She grinned fiercely, doing her best to keep inside the arc of the tip.

As the battle "raged" through the Artist Alley, JD crouched by his booth. He had a notepad out and was scribbling furiously, doodling in his crude, fast manner a quick sketch of the scene as it unfolded. He grinned, clearly enjoying the two knights' parry and thrust, not to mention their teasing.
When Giles asked for input, he said, "The girl has the advantage in the tight alley. But my bet is on the big guy in the long run. She's fiesty, but I'll bet he swallows whatever she throws at him." He stuck his tongue out at Giles' camera and went back to doodling.

Brand snorted. Were this a real fight he'd use his tail to knock her down...but that would be a dead giveaway. Instead Brand kept to his spear and strangled the impulse to whip her legs out from under her. He lowered his stance and his center of gravity, jabbing at her chest repeatedly like a sewing needle. He was careful to pull his blows, though. He had no intention to harm her.
"You ought to see me in an open field," Brand said. "No one can touch me."
Suddenly Brand changed his grip yet again and let Artemis in under his normal arc...only to simply bull into her with his shoulder. He drove her back until she almost collided with a display behind her, but stopped shy of actual disaster. Instead he whipped the spear around and shoved the blunt end a few inches from her face.
"Bang," he said.

"I'd almost believe it." She quipped, parrying the spear tip and trying to go for the "kill".
Artemis didn't notice the trap until she was already inside it. and of course the closed quarters of the booths kept her from recovering properly. The best she could do was use her baton hand to help keep herself balanced while extending her sword arm to try and keep fend him off. And of course it failed as she was "smacked" in the face. She made a mental note to keep an eye out for him during the main event and hope that he didn't have her number.
She smiled graciously and sheathed her weapons, before offering her hand. "Good fight, you're probably one of the best opponents I've ever faced. Definitely one of the most creative. I tip my hat to you." Artemis doffed her helmet and gave a half nod before replacing it.

Brand bowed, more deeply than he had before as he took her hand and kissed it.
"My Lady," he declared. "The honor is mine. Few have given me such a battle. Lady Artemis, I shall remember this for a long time indeed."
He looked around quickly. Good. No sign of any convention officials.
"Perhaps this evening you will honor me with a dance at the ball?" He asked. "Or perhaps share a meal? I have heard legends of a grand place to eat nearby. A tavern by the name of Taco Bell."
He took off the helmet and muzzle to wipe the sweat off his handsome face.

Artemis smirked as he gallantly kissed her hand. "As shall I Sir Brand. And I regret to inform you that I shall not be attending the ball as my attire is unsuited for the ball and I am unsuited for the ball's attire. And if I were you I would avoid that accursed tavern, for as quickly as you devour the fare, it exits your body even quicker."
"But rest assured I suspect we will meet again."

"Hey, hey!" a deep voice suddenly called out as a tall man attempted to worm through the crowd towards the scuffle. He aeemed to be greatly hampered by a large ball of coiled fabric that trailed behind him as some sort of snake man costume. However the brightly colored staff vest he wore was a clue to why he was here.
He looked towards the two combatants, now done with their 'imaginary' bout, and frowned. "I heard something about a commotion around here. You two aren't causing trouble..." he glanced over at the heavily armored dragon without much pause before turing to the seemingly armed woman and narrowed his eyes. "...Are you?" he said with a suspicious tone. The dragon he cared little about as he didn't seem to be giving anything away or eating anybody early. But how heavily armed and armored she was made her rather suspect. Or at least potentially dangerous to the guests who's well being he actually cared about.

"Than I shall try to find a meal that I can hold on to better," Brand said. "Well, I shall be thinking of you at the dance then."
Brand's demeanor soured slightly at the approach of the staff member. He recovered almost immediately as he faced the "snake man" though.
"Not at all," he said, positioning himself slightly between the staffer and Artemis. "Just showing off our props."
