One of the busiest areas of the convention was artist alley; a few dozen tables and chairs crammed in the large hall that ran that connected the At every table was a variety of comics, fanzines, artwork, and crafts. The folks manning them rubbed elbows trying to grab attention from those on their way between the cafe and the panels
JD had a fairly small table, even compared to the others around him. It was crudely decorated with hand-drawn boards of his face winking. He had a variety of zines on display for all sorts of different media. Underappreciated video game characters, short fan comics of classic children's literature, parodies of films. All done in JD's crude but charming style.
JD wore a rather baggy velociraptor costume, the fanged maw of which opened around his head so that his face was visible. The costume was covered in both feathers and scales, and it brushed against everything when he walked.
The greasel-boy couldn't stand still. He kept sneaking over to other artists' table, sometimes with a bundle of zines under one winged arm. He eyed their stuff eagerly, then flashed his zines at anyone who would take the time to talk to him. His mind wasn't on the hunt, or the number in the pocket of his ripped shorts. He was just happy to talk to people.

After hearing about the convention in-town, Ruby decided this would be his big chance to really get out and mesh with the community, especially those who were, well, a bit more like him~! Unfortunately, however, having just moved in and setting up, not to mention also adding this convention admission, Ruby found himself in a bit of a tight spot financially. This offered him a choice: go to the convention and meet new people the old fashioned way, or go to the convention to sell artwork to make up for some of the money spent in this opportunity~ Naturally he took the cautious route and chose the latter.
Ruby set himself up a small table in the artist alley after checking-in and receiving his strange little numbered ticket, spreading out a few of his printed works while doodling contently in his notebook until anyone decided to wander over to the table. Some guests were in costume, some weren't; Ruby couldn't really afford to be in a human costume with that mass of tail behind him all the while, so happily he opted to instead be hidden in plain sight with his lengths of coils stuffed partly under the table and partly around his chair~ Someone who wasn't hidden, however, was one of the other artists there who happily hovered from table to table every so often in a colorful costume. Upon closer inspection, however, the costume mimicked the species underneath, complementing those feathers, scales, and even those claws~! He had to admit, it put-on quite a show~!

A little later after getting her number, whatever that was for, Lilly was making her way to artist alley, so thrilled that there was one here! She had all her normal travel drawing supplies, but she wished she brought more. She sat down at the closest chair and table, flinching whenever that odd looking fellow with the costume came over and looked at her work.
That was hard to get used to, despite how happy and cheerful she was she was still a little jumpy being alone. But she didn't let it bother her too much and was soon happily drawing away, blocking out the rest of the world for now to focus on her drawings. Some were just catching up on commissions while others was just drawing whatever came to mind to practice.

The greasel scampered between his booth and the others with an almost alarming disregard for his own space. In fact, the back of his booth soon began to grow cluttered with the works of other artists rather than his own extra zines. He carried a grab-bag mix of zines under his arm, some of which he traded with other artists, some of which he just left with nice people.
JD eventually made his way around to a table manned by a young guy with fluffy blonde hair and an orange hoodie. JD scurried up to the table, moving from end to end, scanning the artwork. "Nice, nice," he said, surveying the artwork. "Like your style! Very approachable. Very enjoyable." He clicked his pronged claws over the pieces on display. The ends of his costume did not cover his claws; he relied on the old excuse "good material" to explain his odd hands. "What sort of stuff do you like to draw?"
Choosing one, he pulled it out from the rest and said, "Ahhh, I really like this. How much are you charging?" He bounced rather enthusiastically. Some of the zines in his arm slid free and spilled over the floor. Stooping to pick them up, he bumped a near by table where a short young woman in a light dress was drawing. Realizing he might have disturbed her, JD bowed, saying, "Sorry, sorry. Costume's all clumsy." It wasn't so much the costume as his own jittery movements and lanky frame.

Just as Ruby had started to sink back into his own thoughts, he found the costumed artist sudden;y at his front door and diving right into his work~! He was unable to stifle a little yelp as he jumped in his seat with the sudden appearance, but with the artist chattering on, he managed to relax and keep thee conversation rolling~ "Oh! Heheh yeah man, thanks a bunch!" he blushed as he set his sketch book to the side. "Ahhhhh, my favorite's actually mecha and machine-based work, but I'm flexible if you're looking for anything in particular~!" His coils shifted sluggishly under the table as he watched those eager eyes and grabby mitts sort through his work before eventually finding something he liked~
"Ahhh, that one there? I made that one this morning heh; I'll pass it along for $10 if you're interested~!" Ruby offered before noticing those papers starting to slip from under the artist's arms. Before either of them could react, there they went, spilling out onto the floor~ "Oh!! Shi-You got that?" he perked, hefting himself out of his seat and uncurling a bit to move himself to the side of his booth to help pick up some of the papers while the artist apologized to the girl working the booth next to him~

Lilly didn't notice the small commotion happening just next to her across the way, but ahe did defiantly notice later when her table was bumped. Thankfully she was drawing on a edge so the line just slid off the paper and into the table with her pencil. She yelped of course and jumped, looking to see the raptor she assumed from the feathers on the costume collect his dropped things, but not before apologising to her. "O-oh it's okay, mistakes happen.... Do you guys need help picking that up? " She asked, placing her pencil down for now since she assumed more bumps were possible. Of course she believed claws and all were all part of the fancy costume, because monsters didn't exist in her mind so she wasn't worried or suspicious at all. Instead she was just worried about anything of theirs being lost.

Giles, wearing a green, alligator themed hoodie, decided to visit the artist's corner of the convention to pick up some reading material. To his surprise, it looked a lot less busy than he was expecting, but there did seem to be some kind of commotion.
He started at a booth who's owner had stepped away and picked up a 'zine. If he needed to pay for it, that would be simple enough.

Artemis stalked through the artist booths, forcing herself to appear nonchalant and mingle. She also forced herself to ignore the number she got. Just like the number her sister got ten years ago.
She shook her head to jostle that thought out of her mind. She was currently wearing leather armor with a bandoleer of throwing knives across her chest attached to a scabbard that held her sword across her back. Batons with hidden switchblades were sheathed on her legs and she had other small sharp projectiles hidden on her person. Her overly realistic "costume" was completed with an open-faced helmet that covered her short hair.
She continued to glance through the art booths as she both anticipated and dreaded the main event.

"Aahh, no problem, no problem," JD said, skittering to pick up his dropped merchandise. Though he didn't seem to have caused too big a problem for the artist who had been working at the table, he pushed one of his zines on her table, a somewhat hastily assembled collection of comics themed around children's literature. "Here ya go. On the house. Hope I didn't mess you up too bad."
He swiftly gathered up his dropped goods, with help from Ruby. Bending and stooping around the tables, JD soon saw the lengths of coils the artist had carefully hidden under his booth. He was pleased to see another reptile at the artist corner. "Hey, thanks! Here: $10 and have a zine, compliments of the house." It was clear money-making was neither JD's goal nor strong suit as he pulled a zine full of scifi related materials. He looked between the snake at one table and the girl in the light dress at the other and asked, "This you guys' first con? Always cool to meet new artists. Let me know if you need anything. I've been coming for years. I know a bit about convention set ups."
As he spoke, JD failed to notice the zine being taken from his table.

It hadn't taken them long to mop-up the spilt merchandise with the two of them on the job~ By the way the costume'd artist handled his little encounter, Ruby already felt rather comfortable around him; he seemed to be rather nice so far, a little eager and clumsy in that additional gear, but nice never the less~! "Ahhh, no worri-whatnow? ..Oh!!" Ruby perked as he was handed the money and a little zine~ Thumbing through it briefly, he found it full of sci-fi and plenty of other pleasant oddities! "Oh! Thanks a bunch man!" he huffed happily as he hefted himself back up and into his seat, placing the zine next to his little book~
"Ahhhh, yeah, first con in-town for my first month in-town heheh~!" Ruby replied warmly as he straightened out a few bumped pictures on his table before looking to the two artists, "Really nice to meet someone who knows their way around this place~! I'm, ahhh, Ruby! How about you two~?" he offered curiously to both the eager costumer and his neighbor.

"Well then, welcome to the MBS," said JD with a grin. "I'm JD. I run about seven or eight zines. I can't remember exactly how many." He clicked a claw through the stack, counting. "Yeah, seven. Don't worry. You'll fit right in. This place is friendly enough."
As if demonstrating the convention's friendliness, JD turned to a girl walking by in leather armor. He held out a zine full of fantasy comics and said, "Want a fanzine? I got something for everyone. Lord of the Rings to Wizard of Earth Sea!" Either he didn't notice her thoughtful attitude or didn't think anything of it.

Giles looked up at the reptilian boy calling out to the heroine. 'Now there's a costume with interesting implications,' he thought. If those weapons had been real, she could probably slay whatever monster drew her number. Unless it was him, but it would be no fun if she didn't get a chance to put them to use (fake or not).
Since she seemed preoccupied, the alligator-hooded man walked over to JD instead. "You're selling these 'Zines?

Lilly continued her work for a little while longer, before she decided she was a little peckish for something sweet. So she put up jer supplies for now and headed out while the others talked, knowing she saw a vending machine back a ways towards the entrance. (Taking Lilly out for now, may come back with her or pop in another booth! )

"Ahhhh thanks heheh, it's always a bit rough for me getting into new communities~!" Ruby smiled shyly, though he still hadn't gotten his name. Oh well, he'd likely catch it sometime soon seeing how much the artist talked. At least Ruby had made his first contact in this new town, and the more people he knew, the easier it would be to settle in~!
As his thoughts wandered, he noticed the girl that was being offered those fantasy zines~ Rather strange, he'd been to conventions before, and fantasy style costumes like that were quite common, however what wasn't common was the rather unreal amount of weaponry she was toting around without peace ties or so much as an orange band~ Very strange that the staff would allow someone in with so much unchecked weaponry, unless perhaps she was part of a venue, but even then it would make more sense for all that gear to be stashed out of the way of the public until the venue was scheduled~ Oh well, so long as she didn't make a fuss, he supposed it wasn't his problem~

Artemis looked over at the stack of zines and began to pick through them. She wasn't particularly interested but he said it was free and she was trying to blend in. "Thanks alot." She replied as she perused the stack. She put a quick smile on her face.
"So what do you think about my chances in the costume contest?" She asked, trying to appear casual while initiating a conversation.
