It was well into the convention and after meeting and entertaining a plethora of guests, Kino needed a break. By this time he's set up a -closed- sign onto the booth, and he knows that people won't try and steal from him. Mostly because he's got magical wards to prevent people from doing so. Upon leaving his booth, he made his way through the cluster of con goers, monsters and humans alike. He was as graceful as a cat, weaving and slipping between folks as he made his way to his destination. Every con had an area outside where people could slip out for a breather every now and then, and this con had several back alley areas to them. Kino needed a moment from all the noise and hubbub inside, so his destination was one of these back alley resting zones.
No one was guarding these exits just yet, since the main event wasn't due for another few hours at the earliest. They hadn't even done the 'best costume' showing; a contest he wasn't allowed to participate in due to being more human looking then monster looking. He didn't mind though. He was turning a pretty good profit and was meeting a few lovely people. Some he was enjoying, while others he knew he'd never see again. It was a bit disheartening for him sometimes, to meet someone lovely, only to know that they won't be leaving here by the end of the night.
With a quiet click, the door swung shut behind him. There was a fence towards the front of the convention that kept people from sneaking in (it had barbed wire strewn atop it). Thankfully, no one seemed to be outside just yet, and Kino could let out a sigh of relief, gently rubbing his ears and frowning. "So much noise. These ears are always so sensitive to it all." He says softly, shaking his head and letting himself just lean against the wall for a while. The fresh air felt nice as well.

"Tell me about it." Artemis murmured as she closed the door behind her. "Not to mention how fucking stale the air gets in there." She smirked, pulling out a lighter and a pack of cigarettes. "Of course that doesn't stop me from appreciating the fresh air by sucking down smoke."
She pulled out a cigarette. "You don't mind if I light one do you?"

Kino couldn't help but let out an eep. He hadn't heard the door open again once he slipped outside, so the suddenness of a voice cutting through the quiet made him jump a little. His tail swished behind him slightly, almost like a cat that's agitated or scared. He looked over to see Artemis closing the door and pulling out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. When asked if he minded if she smoked, he shook his head.
"Nah, its fine. Just stay down wind and you'll be fine." He says with a nod, before stretching and gathering his composure again. He couldn't help but let out a little groan as he stretched his arms and back. "So, how're you enjoying the convention miss...?" He asks with a slight grin, trailing off so she can finish with her name for him.

Artemis chuckled as she watched him jump, before lighting up her cigarette and taking a puff. It was always nice when she got the drop on someone, whether by intention or not.
"Montoya, but you can call me Artemis." She smirked. "But now you have me at a bit of a disadvantage. And we can't have that can we?"
She paused, taking another drag on her cigarette and letting it out before answering his question about how her day was. "Men I've had better and worse, spent some time walking around and hanging at the bar. I heard a lot of talk about a main event. Most of you boys dressed as monsters seem pretty keen on it." Of course she wouldn't let it slip that she had been here before, and thus knew all too well about the monsters and the main event, which is part of the reason she was out here, she had to distance herself from the crowd to calm down.

"Name's Kino. I've been running the Alchemical Delights booth and just needed a break from everyone." He says with a chuckle, "Tis hard to keep one's composure for so long without needing a break after all." He says, rubbing his ears again. Out here he wasn't too concerned about things, and even then he can just chalk it up to 'adjusting' his ears.
"The bars is definitely a good place to meet people if that's what you're looking for. ANd yeah, a lot of people tend to go hog wild at these conventions. I won't lie, some of the guys here use this as one of their machismo competitions. Essentially a pissing contest if you will." He says with a laugh, rolling his eyes at the thought. Granted, he knew that a lot of the guy shere would engorge themselves on ladies, even going so far as to steal people assigned to another person. It wasn't rare to go hungry at these conventions. He did last year anyways. His tail flicked behind him softly, those twin tail tips twisting around each other every now and then as he eyed the girl up and down.
"That cigarette's helping keeping you calm, eh? Have a bad run in with someone?" He asked curiously. He wasn't sure, but she seemed a bit off kilter. He could be imagining it though. He never was the best at reading people.

Artemis smirked. "Well I can definitely see why you need a break. Every time I pass that booth it seems pretty packed." She chuckled when she heard him say that about the bar. "Yeah it was probably as packed as your booth."
The smirk stayed on her face as she took another drag on her cigarette and listened to the description of how savage the convention got. But she already knew first hand. She had seen it for herself. Just as she watched his tail moving around. In fact she was so busy watching it that she almost missed his question about her cigarette. "Yeah it is. But it's more the big crowds than anything specific."
She took another drag before remarking dryly, "I bet you got a lot of compliments on your animatronic tails."

Kino nods, "Yeah, my booth gets pretty packed at this place. Been here a few times and the rush gets worse towards the main event. 'Kino I need this, Kino will this make my day fruitful?' You'd be surprised how whinny people can be when they are overcome with their selfish desires." He says shaking his head a little. "Granted, you can't really say I'm any better. I'm mostly here to turn a profit and enjoy myself." He says with a soft chuckle.
He watched her watch that tail. It swished side to side, the tips curling every so often as he spoke. It definitely seemed to flick faster and slower depending on how he was feeling and what he was discussing. "Mmm, crowds can be rough for prolonged periods of time, yeah. Hopefully you're not stuck out here too long because of it." He says softly. For all Kino was worth, he still had a side of him that could care about people as people, instead of just a meal.
"You want to touch it?" He asked her suddenly, after her question about his tail. "I made it myself, the tail splitting was an accident though." He said with a chuckle, "But I liked it so much that I decided to keep it." He wasn't lying after all, he had experimented with a potion that caused his tail to split halfway down its length, and he decided to leave it like that cause he enjoyed the uniqueness of it.

"Well I'm sure I could be back in time to enjoy the main event." And almost feral glint came into her eye as she finished, "It should be a hell of a time."
"Sure. It's just too cute." She smirked and reached out to touch the tail, holding it lightly. "It's so soft too, did you use real cat fur?" Artemis asked, still dryly. "If I didn't know better I'd say that these are real."

After spending a good while simply wandering around, Saff was feeling a bit weary. Looking about didn't bring up very many places for her to relax. Now she didn't mind the crowds, but she also preferred a little private time to recharge and maybe eat a little lunch. Her bag of little monster boy stickers, buttons, and plush toys was also starting to get a bit heavy on her other arm.
Eventually her search lead her to a more secluded spot, just nestled out of the way and sights of others. While she was reluctant at first, she took a risk and headed outside to the back alley. The strong stench of smoke assaulted her nostrils and she frowned when she realized she wasn't alone. Smoke or the stale air inside...a difficult decision but the less crowding here, and her aching feet won her over in the end.
"Hey, mind if I join you guys?" She asked boldly, giving a small wave in greeting. "Or was I interrupting a private moment?"

Kino had to try really hard to resist purring upon having his tail petted. "Y..yeah. Err well, no. I didn't use real cat fur. That'd be a bit cruel to shave a cat for a costume." He says with a nod. Despite his attempts to avoid purring, that tail flicks and curls around ARtemis' hand softly as it pets along its length. The fur was incredibly soft to the touch and Kino definitely enjoyed having his tail and ears petted. Its a lot easier to hide the cat like responses to it inside though.
"Hehe well..." He trailed off, but thankfully luck seemed on his side, because at that moment a new girl had slipped outside to join them. As Saffron walked up to them, he took this chance to ignore the girl's question. "Why yes, sure. The more the merrier out here where the crowd isn't nearly as overwhelming." He said with a soft chuckle. "The name's Kino, and this here is... Artemis." He says, introducing the two to the new girl, and also taking a moment to remember which name the girl petting his tail preferred to be called. "What's your name?" He asked warmly, noticing the large amount of monster boy memorabilia the girl was carrying. It seemed like she was quite the shopper here.

Artemis smirked as she heard him purring. "You're really getting into character." She teased before hearing the door open. She jumped and let go of his tail.
"No it's all right we were just talking." She reassured the newcomer. "Looks like you're enjoying the con." She finished her cigarette and stomped it out as she looked at all the souvenirs.

"Well I'm glad to hear that the in the making of the cute kitty costume, no actually cats were harmed." Saffron spoke in a tone of voice that was out of an infomercial, and she covered her mouth to giggle at Artemis's reaction. "Saffron. Call me Saff if you like. Or Saffy. Or bat lady, even!" She started to offer her hand but quickly retracted it after a sudden second thought. "Also fun fact, I study zoology. If there was real cat fur involved here, then I'm afraid I would've had to kick your ass in back alley. Humanely acquired or not!" There was a playful tone in her voice that indicated she wasn't serious, but the playfulness didn't quite reach her eyes. It didn't hold, and soon she back to her natural bubbliness. "Other than that...are you really a cat or something? That purring is too real, but also really cute!"
After scanning their surroundings for a moment, she quickly found a wall to lean against. "Well, don't mind me too much. I just came here to relax and eat some lunch I brought from home. And I'm loving it here! What about you two?"

Kino chuckled, gently pulling his tail away from Artemis after they both caught onto his purring. "Err, nah. i'm just really good at pretending to purr. After all, a cat would enjoy their tail being petted and what not, no?" He said with a warm smile. Suddenly he was the nervous one, and he hoped to play it off as being a bit shy or something. It'd be bad if he had to snatch these two up, let alone if he'd even be able to do so considering he wasn't all that built on the strong side of the spectrum.
"Its a pleasure to meet you Saffy. That's interesting that you're a zoologist. So you study animals for a living?" That's not good. He was glad that she bought the story that the fur was fake. Its hard to fake fur when its really growing on your body after all. "I'm deifnitely enjoying it here. Its a lot of fun to see lovely ladies and the enjoyable creativity of the monsters all around us."

Artemis smirked. "Well it's nice to meet you Saffron. And I have to agree, that is pretty realistic, after all she does study animals." She chuckled teasingly. "So either you're an extremely good costumer and actor or you're not telling the truth."
She chuckled a bit to show she was joking, though she wasn't exactly. "Yeah this is pretty decent, though I've also notices some girls in pretty good costumes too."

Saffron hummed as she raised a brow at Artemis's joke. She was probably being a bit suspicious, but something felt just a tad bit off about her wording. Was that a joke or a nudge? She shrugged it off, reaching into her purse until she pulled out a small plastic bag. Encased within were apple slices, cut up into rabbit shapes, that she promptly pulled out and bit into. A nice crunch, a crisp sweetness, she chewed and swallowed it before she reached for another one. "Agreed, Artemis. The girls look great but the guys are insanely good. I don't if there's a bunch of chemists able to perfectly recreate textures or what, but some of these costumes looked scarily real!"
"Can't argue with you there, Kino and yes I do. Animals are my passion." She gestured to the short tie above her chest, pointing out to the little bat that adorned the top. A similar one hung off her ears, and another was shown off boldly on her purse. "Especially these guys. Enjoying the lovely ladies? Are you sure I wasn't interrupting a moment." She winked, and took another bite of one of her apple slices. "I hope I count as a lovely lady too~"
